Residence Inn by Marriott New Orleans Metairie

We were in Metairie for a wedding, and this place suited our needs well. It's not the prettiest spot and isn't very walkable, but there's ample parking on site. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, everything was clean, and the grounds were tidy. The hotel gym was good, and the complimentary breakfast was better than we expected. I'd consider staying here again when we're in Metairie.

**BED BUGS** ALERT! Check the photos for the bite marks on my body. Martha Bullock, the manager's assistant at this location, and Eric don't seem trained to meet Marriott's high service standards. The building even has a notice saying it's under construction. The stove and the rest of the room hadn't been cleaned properly, there was no dish detergent, and the dishes on the counter weren't clean. On my first night, after I turned on the heater, the room filled with smoke and I almost passed out. It was midnight when I called for help. They sent a new room key, but expected me to move all my belongings to another room alone, with no cart or staff help. I asked for a refund for the first night of my three-night stay. Eric said Martha, the GM, would handle it, but at checkout they were dismissive and said they wouldn't refund the night because I hadn't needed medical assistance, despite the inconvenience and serious safety risk. This location clearly doesn't care about guests' safety or well-being. I'll report the incident to the fire department because of their lack of concern. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

The hotel worked well for our multigenerational family over a long weekend. It was a handy location for touring, visiting relatives Uptown and taking excursions near the Swamps. The kids and teens had room to spread out and enjoyed the pool, basketball court, games and gym. The lobby was being renovated, but the staff were as accommodating as ever, and breakfast was fantastic.

I've been coming here for over a year while renovations have been going on, but I don't want to return. The pool has never really been usable. Most visits it's dirty, with trash on the bottom. The new fire pit doesn't work, and when I ask, I'm told it's broken. The outdoor grill knobs are still the same broken ones from a year ago. At breakfast, things from plates to food keep running out, and my kids and I always have to ask for what we need. I hate feeling this way about a Marriott.
