The resort itself is beautiful, and the facilities and atmosphere are genuinely impressive. I liked the room, gym, and some of the wellness spaces. I came in hoping Carillon would become my Miami home base after getting a birthday treatment, but the massage made that hard to imagine. I was offered deep tissue or Swedish, and chose Swedish after being told it would be medium pressure. My therapist was very kind, but the massage felt like oil and warm stones with hardly any pressure. I’m a runner and mentioned the tension in my legs. The therapist acknowledged it and said I should stretch more, yet those areas were barely worked. I’ve had plenty of professional massages, and this was the least effective one I can remember. I get more relief from my massage gun at home. I kept waiting to relax into it, but never did. I left feeling so deflated that I skipped lunch and the pool, then told the checkout attendant I was short on time when she asked whether I’d enjoyed the resort. It was embarrassing to explain how disappointed I was. Carillon has a gorgeous property, but the massage service needs work if they want locals to return. Maybe I was an outlier, that’s possible, but I’d had high hopes for a birthday pamper day and came away feeling I’d wasted the chance.

The gym is top notch, and we enjoyed lap swimming in the adults-only pool. We didn’t try any spa services. Towels were missing most days, though, which became a safety concern when we had to drip water down the stairs on the way out. It was also disappointing that the beach loungers were taken away at 5 pm, so we sat in the sand to watch the evening. Publix is very conveniently close. Our room was nicely laid out but needed some upkeep. The kitchen drawers and cupboard doors wobbled, and we had to ask for more dishes and glasses. A door tag to decline housekeeping would have helped. We also wanted brighter reading lights, a coffee maker or coffee in the lobby, and a way to watch movies through HBO or log in to our own streaming accounts. The hotel offered six movies, I think, for about $20, which felt a bit cheap given the nightly rate.

We liked our room, the gym, and a few of the wellness facilities, but the way the hotel dealt with several problems ruined the stay. My wife and I both work in hospitality and understand that things can go wrong. The repeated poor communication and lack of accountability, especially around safety, were not acceptable. The most serious incident came at checkout. We had left our car with valet on Friday evening and didn’t access it until Sunday. When I picked it up, there was visible cocaine residue inside, on the center console, dashboard, and both interior door handles. I reported it right away to the front desk and valet management. Security photographed the car and took a written statement. They said they would review the camera footage and call that evening. More than a week later, after I tried to reach management through several channels, I still had no follow-up. For a resort built around wellness and care, the lack of urgency and leadership response to drugs being in a guest’s car was shocking. This was a serious failure of guest safety and trust. Other billing problems added to the frustration. Staff had confirmed that our package included a $30 per person breakfast credit, but checkout staff disputed it and handled it poorly. Valet fees that should have been included appeared on the bill and had to be removed manually. Incorrect spa charges stretched checkout to nearly an hour. The couples massage was also unacceptable. Both tables had broken headrests, leaving us in uncomfortable positions, and the heating pad on my wife’s table didn’t work. She’s a Pilates instructor and bodyworker and found it so uncomfortable that she stopped early. The spa director apologized, but asking for a refund for a service we couldn’t use became unnecessarily contentious. There was a separate safety issue in the women’s sauna when an elderly guest fell in front of my wife. She helped the guest and waited around 20 minutes for security. The response felt slow and procedural instead of urgent. Carillon presents itself as a luxury wellness destination, but our experience fell far short of that.

The location was perfect for a relaxing three-night break, and our room was spacious, beautifully furnished, and thoughtfully laid out. The hotel was spotless and the amenities felt first class. We also had a lovely time riding the complimentary bikes down to South Beach, then returning to unwind by the pool. We were welcomed warmly by Marc, one of the hotel leaders, and every interaction after that was just as good. The locker room team, Dana at the front desk, and the beach stand staff were all attentive, professional, and genuinely kind. This was our second time at Carillon, and somehow it topped the first. We met a lovely couple from Montreal who have been coming for over 14 years, so we understand the appeal. We’re already talking about bringing our little kids in the next few months and returning for years to come. Thanks to the whole team for another stay we won’t forget.

Six of us spent a day at the Carillon spa, and all of us came away thrilled with our massages. Hans and Monica really understand the body. They worked to ease tension and leave us feeling restored, and both went above and beyond. Their care, skill, and dedication were obvious, and we all felt better leaving than when we arrived. The Carillon is our favorite weekend escape. The rooms are gorgeous, the spa is unmatched, and the whole experience is worth it. We can’t wait to do it again.
