Island House South Beach

I booked two nights through a third-party site, and the sheets had stains that I hoped were just hard to wash out. The place smelled dank, but everything nearby was booked and I was in a pinch. Based on what happened, I'd warn people not to book through a third party if they might need a refund or have belongings go missing. Management apparently hadn't communicated with the cleaning staff, who thought I was checking out even though I still had another night. When I got back, my things were scattered all over the room, including my passport, keys, license, credit cards and clothes. It looked like someone had ransacked everything but still made the bed. Makeup and toiletries were missing, and even now I don't know what else is gone. Ricky was appalled too, did what he could to fix things, and told me to contact Richard. I assumed the bed would have fresh linens that night, since the cleaners thought they were preparing the room for a new guest. It was the same sheets with the same stains. They don't change linens after every guest. The next morning I found more things missing and had to interrupt my stay again to ask management about them. They said they'd thrown them in the garbage with everything else. After searching through it, they returned most of my things in a garbage bag, soiled with bodily fluids and mixed with other bathroom garbage. That means the items I found scattered around the room had also been pulled from the same filthy trash. Absolutely vile. Getting hold of Richard was difficult. He said I had to ask the booking site for a refund. The site was just as appalled and usually doesn't refund, but made an exception. They gave me a form to email Richard so he could process it. I sent it, he said he'd get back to me, and then he never did. When I called again, he guilt-tripped me about the cleaning woman possibly losing her job, saying she was nice and asking why I'd do that to her. He compared it to having a steak at a restaurant and seemed to use every trick to avoid taking responsibility. His standards for the business are vile and despicable. Ricky was kind, though. Staying here left me feeling that the bed might be unclean and belongings could disappear or get soiled with other people's bodily fluids. I was lucky to get most of my things back the next day. Richard can take advantage of guests with no accountability, and could just say it's not his problem if something goes missing.
