The Gem on 15th

BEWARE. This place was nothing like the Airbnb listing. The AC in our unit didn’t work, and even after we asked several times, nobody did anything to fix it. The floors were sticky, the gas range had a large crack, and basic things like dishwashing pods weren’t provided. Some of the blinds were broken, letting light pour in from the neighboring building all night. I wish I could give it zero stars. Don’t book, you’ll regret it.

Awful stay. The AC broke, nobody came to repair it, and we couldn’t get in touch with the property owners for the whole visit.

We booked this for a girls’ weekend, but it was a big disappointment. The place didn’t look like the photos. The rooms were clean in a basic sense, but not as clean as they should’ve been: there were scuffs, what looked like dried throw-up and spilled drinks on the walls, and the sheets and towels weren’t properly clean. They swept, mopped, and changed the bedding like at any hotel, but the walls needed wiping and some paint touch-ups. It didn’t feel like somewhere I’d want to call a home away from home or stay at again. The gentleman who helped us on arrival was rude. Later, I asked another staff member for clean towels and he said he’d bring them in the afternoon, even though it was already 1:30 pm. These little things matter if you want to keep a business thriving and avoid reviews like this.

The location was excellent, but the rest of the stay was the opposite of the home-away-from-home feel we expected. I was there for 5 days and 4 nights, and the online pictures must have been taken right after renovations because the room didn’t look that way. The walls had scuffs and what looked like old spills and dried vomit. The sheets and towels weren’t up to standard, and the room smelled of stale cigarettes despite being listed as non-smoking. The AC was very loud, but without it the room heated up quickly, so we had to keep turning it back on. The man who checked us in was rude and unfriendly. A few days later, we asked another employee for fresh towels. He said he’d bring them in the afternoon, though it was already 1:30 pm. On our last night, a storm knocked out the power, which stayed off for about an hour after the rain began. The room nearly ruined our vacation, though thankfully we didn’t spend much time there. Management needs to do much better.
