Extended Stay America Suites Miami Airport Blue Lagoon

We picked this place for the price and good reviews before our cruise, but ended up changing rooms twice, almost three times. The first had no hot water or washcloths, and the bathroom was very dirty. The second hit us with such an awful mildew smell that I started choking and got a headache as soon as we opened the door. Its tub had a mildew ring, the floor was lifting, and the room was dusty, dirty, and smelly. By the last room, which had no blinds or curtains, we were done. We had to put a sheet over the window, which felt so ghetto, and the room faced the front where people could see straight in. We just wanted a shower and some rest. I wouldn't suggest anyone stay here. The receptionist stayed professional and calm, so I gave service three stars.

The staff were the only redeeming part. They were pleasant, helpful, and professional, and seemed to be doing their best under difficult conditions. I appreciated their friendliness. The room was dingy and the bathroom dirty, while the so-called free breakfast was almost imaginary. The shower was odd: water came from both the shower head and faucet at once, which may have been intentional but felt like a plumbing problem. Sand covered the tub floor. I couldn't tell if a previous guest left it or someone meant to make it feel beachy, but that wasn't what I wanted while showering. If a friend gave this hotel more than two stars, I'd have a hard time believing them.

We were there from February 7-11, and housekeeping never came to our room. We got no cleaning, fresh towels, or linen change for the whole stay. There was a strong bad smell, so we had to leave the door open for fresh air. The staff were rude and unhelpful, treating guests like an inconvenience. The advertised breakfast included only cheap packaged cookies and cold coffee, which felt misleading. We asked for kitchenware, as this chain usually provides it, but got only two plates. This location doesn't meet basic hospitality standards, and I wouldn't stay again.

Room 257 smelled strongly of marijuana, the floors and kitchen were filthy, and the phone didn't work. I went back to complain and was moved to another room, which was better but smelled of mildew. The front desk service was unpleasant too. There wasn't even a welcome, and the woman seemed like she didn't want to be there. At $265 for one night, I think it was far too expensive regardless of the location. I won't stay at another Extended Stay of America.
