Shalimar Motel

They cancelled my room while I was already two hours into a four-hour drive. The explanation was a problem with my credit card, but they claimed they'd called first, and my full call history showed no call at all. They also said they'd emailed me to ask about the issue. The only message I got that day was saying the reservation was cancelled. They never contacted me to discuss anything. It felt like they simply wanted to give my room away. This deserves zero stars.

I had booked a month ahead and received a confirmation, so I thought I was set. On the day of the stay I drove from Orlando without hearing anything, then arrived at Shalimar several hours later and they couldn't find my reservation. They blamed a credit card problem and said they'd called, but I had no missed calls. They also said an email had been sent. I found one message saying the reservation may have been canceled, but they hadn't tried to ask me about any issue. With room prices in the area more than doubled because of the boat show, I suspect there was more behind cancelling my room than a card issue they never bothered to discuss.

The rooms were in such poor condition this place shouldn't be in business. We booked room 105 with one king bed, but the bathroom sink leaked and water was everywhere, even though they knew about it and had left a bucket. We asked to switch rooms and got room 202, with two beds. There was water everywhere in that room too.

The bedding was disappointing, and the rooms smelled like cigarettes. The male receptionist was rude and impolite, and hospitality clearly isn't his strong suit. He should find another line of work.
