Sheraton Miami Airport Hotel & Executive Meeting Center

The rooms could use an update. The furnishings, carpet, and decor feel dated, though everything was clean and worked as it should. Our beds were comfortable, the room was quiet, and we had what we needed for a good night's sleep. What stood out most was how easy it was to get around. The Sheraton Miami Airport Hotel & Executive Meeting Center is close to the airport, major roads, and transportation, and especially handy for an event or match at DRV PNK Stadium. The property was clean and well organized, with a welcoming lobby and common areas. Every staff member we met was friendly, helpful, and seemed to care about guests, from check-in to answering little questions. We had a pleasant stay and would consider coming back. The convenient location, comfortable room, and good service made it a solid choice, even with the older decor.

The front desk staff were cordial and professional at both check-in and checkout. The airport van driver, though, was rude. The rooms are the bigger problem. They're dated and worn, with patch jobs everywhere, peeling tub reglazing, and several layers of paint on doors. The carpet under the bed was filthy, the walls were paper thin, and the beds sit on cheap rolling frames pushed against the wall. The drapes wouldn't fully close, which left me feeling exposed because the airport train runs just outside one side of the hotel. There's no mini fridge, and the desk's built-in outlet cluster was hanging loose and unusable. My coworker's thermostat didn't work. During a very cold spell in Miami, he kept turning the temperature up, but the room only got colder the longer the HVAC ran. This Sheraton is close to Miami International, which works well for a short airport stay. The arena being built next door may bring heavy traffic and more noise once it's finished. Marriott owns the hotel now, and I hope they remodel soon. It badly needs a gut renovation.

We chose this hotel while waiting for our flight out of MIA, and the friendly front desk staff helped arrange an early check-in, which we really appreciated. The rooms were basic but fine, and we enjoyed the outdoor pool and hotel restaurant. The food was good and prices reasonable. The free airport shuttle runs every 15 minutes, a better frequency than I've seen at other hotels, where it can be every 30 minutes or even hourly. Being near the airport is a big plus, though there's not really anything within walking distance, like shops or restaurants. I'll stay here again on my next Miami trip.

The staff was nice, and you can see the new stadium being built. The airport is a sneeze away. The rest of my stay didn't meet the expectations I had for a Sheraton under Marriott's Bonvoy brand. The room was 82 degrees because the cooling was off. There was no overhead light, though you could see where its switch used to be, and no refrigerator. In the bathroom, plastic pipes were exposed and the tub looked like the renovation had stopped halfway, with a shower head sticking out of the wall and awful caulking around the gap. The smoke detector looked older than my teenage daughter, and I suspect it might be expired. Smoke detectors do expire after a set number of years. Two of the three elevators creaked on the way up, paused a long time before descending, and seemed unsure about opening at my floor. I never saw the third one open, so I can't say if it works.
