Up Midtown Hotel

The room needs better upkeep. The walls were dirty, and the refrigerator defrosted and left a big puddle on the floor. There was a strong chlorine smell throughout. The TV was barely usable because the internet was so poor, and the light coming in along with the noise made it impossible to sleep.

The front desk couldn’t be bothered to help. I called nine times for the Wi-Fi password and nobody answered; when I went down and got it, the internet was painfully slow and YouTube just buffered. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear people in the next room snoring or whispering. The rooms were dirty, the floors were wet and sticky with chemicals, and the chlorine odor was strong enough to give you a headache. It’s loud and smelly, and this place isn’t cheap at all, $500-$600 for two nights. Prison would be easier. I’ve never wanted to give a one-star review more than I do here.

The only decent part was that an employee came at 10 p.m. and scrubbed the room thoroughly. There were no other rooms available, and Booking wouldn’t let us get a refund, so we had no choice but to stay. We appreciated her effort, but it doesn’t excuse the hygiene problems. The bathroom clearly hadn’t been cleaned, the floor was dirty, and we found a cockroach about 4-5 cm long in the room. It was disgusting. This was the worst hotel stay we’ve ever had, completely unacceptable for a place rated 7.3 on Booking. We left very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The location is great, and otherwise the room was okay, but the TV was broken. Only a few rooms seem to have been upgraded. Why hasn’t the hotel at least switched to TVs with Netflix? They’re cheaper than one night’s stay here, yet for some reason they still haven’t upgraded. As things stand, the room might be worth $50 a night without even a basic TV option. Please fix this.
