Herlong Mansion Bed & Breakfast

The grounds are lovely and the mansion is charming, so it seemed like a great fit for my son's intimate wedding. We booked the bed and breakfast for both the lodging and the venue, and the rates were reasonable. But the planning became stressful as communication and professionalism fell short. There was no formal written contract, only verbal agreements and a few emails. Later, the owner disputed even those, and several promises weren't kept in the weeks before the wedding. As the groom's mother and acting coordinator, I stepped in when problems came up. I also heard a few off-color remarks from the owner that felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. With the wedding only hours away, we let those concerns go. On the wedding day, several guests and members of the bridal party told us the owner had treated them rudely. That cast a shadow on what should've been a joyful weekend. The property itself could be a dream location, but based on the owner's lack of reliability and professionalism, I can't recommend it for such an important event.

We picked the Carriage House, right beside the main house, so we'd be near the local bike trails, and it worked out great. It was peaceful, the bed was really comfortable, and the service and breakfast were terrific. Loved the little touches too, like soft sheets and towels that smelled clean. :)

The staff besides Kim were mostly friendly and helpful, while the property itself is beautiful. But our wedding there was overshadowed by Kim's unprofessional behavior and what felt like disdain for life. During planning, she was difficult to reach and slow to return calls. She also refused to provide a contract for our wedding agreements, then tried to walk back nearly every one, including room and cottage use and the start and end times. We have screenshots and emails documenting agreements she later disputed. She was rude to almost every guest and made several of us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable with her strange, negative energy. She made comments doubting whether we could get the ceremony set up on time. Multiple guests later told us it was the most beautiful wedding they'd ever seen, so I hope that miserable shrew understands we meant what we said. Kim disrespected my family and closest friends, including people who flew across the country. A newlywed couple shouldn't have guests coming to them to complain about the venue owner. There were so many awkward, uncomfortable, or downright offensive interactions that my family and friends and I feel a formal apology is warranted. I won't hold my breath, but we're ready to speak honestly and loudly about the "management" here. Kim might learn something by taking notes from the other staff.

The grounds were lovely, the rooms very clean, and breakfast was delicious at my daughter's wedding here. Still, I wouldn't recommend having a wedding at this place. Kim was very hard to work with. She'd agree to something, then change it later or act like she had no idea what we meant. One moment she'd be rude and the next she'd try to be sweet. Every guest who dealt with her came to us to complain about her rudeness. At one point, while other guests were there, she told me, "don't look at me like that." I didn't know my expression had offended her, but saying that in front of everyone offended me. She was very unprofessional and has no business working with people.
