Hampton Inn & Suites Michigan City

I've stayed here several times this year and will keep coming back when work brings me to the area. The beds are cozy, the pool is nice, the gym machines work, and breakfast is always ready on time. I did have one room where it was hard to get the water temperature between really hot and cold, but that's the only problem I've had.

The staff really made the stay for us. Stephanie at check-in, I think that was her name, knew the area well and was helping lots of guests with information. The pool was busy, but everyone there seemed to be having a great time. The next morning Tammy, Cora, and the rest of the team were so kind and lifted our mood. Breakfast was lovely, and the staff clearly cared, even helping another guest get syrup to go. Our room was clean, though some trim was worn and the bathtub could use refinishing. The beds weren't the most comfortable, with springs poking through. Still, the cleanliness, staff, and general atmosphere made it a five-star experience. We'd definitely stay again.

The hotel was clean, and the staff, especially Patricia, were very nice when I checked in Friday. But the bed in room 210 had a dip in the middle and was horribly uncomfortable. It was the worst night's sleep I've had in a hotel, so I can only give this place three stars.

The hotel itself is decent, and the rooms were clean with everything working. I've stayed here before and had a very good experience from check-in through the rest of the stay, but this time the reception was awful. JEN was on her personal phone when we walked in and took a while to help us. Her manner was rude and degrading. I wanted to cancel and leave, but finding another place then would have been another inconvenience. First impressions matter, and I had to work hard to keep my cool. She told me she'd worked at many reputable hotels, and I wonder why she couldn't stay at one. She needs to learn how to speak to and treat paying customers. Hampton, get rid of her.
