Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Middleton - Madison West

The general manager welcomed me and checked me in. When something in my room wasn’t right, he helped sort it out quickly. This is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at so far, and I’ll be back every month soon.

The property was quiet, had plenty of parking, and seemed well kept. Our second room was clean enough, with comfortable pillows and average beds. Still, the service problems made the four-night stay a hassle, and we won’t return. At check-in, the attendant came across as annoyed and was curt with us. The keys we got were for a room latched from inside, so we went back to ask for another. There were only three towels and two washcloths in the replacement room, not enough for four nights with housekeeping supposedly every third day. We had to keep going to the desk for more. Our keys stopped working on the third night. The clerk said they’d been coded wrong, but the same thing happened the next night after the same employee had fixed them. Housekeeping never came during our stay, even though we were out all day and hadn’t put up a do-not-disturb sign. Next time we’re in Madison, we’ll find somewhere else.

We had a really good stay. The staff were kind and very accommodating, and the noon checkout was a big help after our late check-in. The pool was large and clean, and our room was comfortable, clean, and well stocked. Also, the hotel hair dryer was the best I’ve ever used. Breakfast had much more than the usual quick options: bagels, toast, cereal, juice, fruit, waffles, oatmeal, eggs, yogurt, sausage, and more. There was ample parking for our trailer, plus plenty of outdoor bins for the trash from our long drive.

After a week of staying at similar hotels while driving around Wisconsin, this was easily the nicest one we visited. The room was very well done, with a roomy bathroom and a comfortable bed and pillows. Breakfast was the usual selection and fine, served in a clean dining area. Wi-Fi worked, service was fine, and the place was well maintained.
