Holiday Inn Midland by IHG

I paid more than $50 extra per night for the king room with a jacuzzi, the same room my wife and I had for our wedding night, because I wanted to surprise her for Valentine's Day. I even brought rose petals, bubble bath, candles, the works. We arrived at 3 p.m. for check-in, but they gave us a different room. When I asked the young man at the front desk why we weren't getting the room I'd paid extra for, he laughed and said they didn't have those rooms anymore. I asked to switch to a cheaper room since there was no reason to pay the extra $50 a night, but he smiled and said they couldn't refund or change the booking because I'd booked through a third party. I explained that I booked on their website and had called the front desk the night I booked to confirm I had the right room. He chuckled again and said there was nothing he could do. The rooms don't match the photos or have the advertised amenities. This place is a scam and the advertising is false. We'd give it zero stars if we could, and we won't be back.

The BigE restaurant is worth a visit, and there are video games, a swimming pool, and a pool. The rooms are large, with good beds and everything you'd expect from a quality hotel. I had a fantastic stay at the Holiday Inn at Midland. The service was excellent, and the staff were polite and respectful. I definitely recommend it.

We paid $160 for one night in a double queen room, and the value didn't match the price, though it wasn't a complete waste. Getting checked in was confusing. Around 3 p.m., one receptionist was helping a guest while another asked who was next. I thought that was us, but four women sitting in the lobby rushed over after I approached the other desk and rudely told my friend they were next. I let them go ahead since they seemed in a hurry. The receptionist who then helped us didn't explain where our room was or how to get there, even though the middle elevator was closed. We wandered around looking for the north elevator. She didn't tell us where breakfast was or what time it started, but did remind us to wear pool wristbands. We checked the room before bringing our things up. It was set to 75, and the air and heat wouldn't adjust. We went back down to ask for maintenance. The receptionist said she'd call but gave no wait estimate, so we sat in the lobby for about 35 minutes. I asked another receptionist about breakfast. She checked our room number and explained that we needed vouchers, asking whether we'd been given one. We hadn't, just a $5-off coupon in the booklet, so she wrote a voucher and told us breakfast was downstairs in the restaurant. I also asked about the repair. She had to get the first receptionist to radio maintenance, and we learned it would be another 15 minutes. All told, we didn't get into our room until an hour after check-in, which was irritating. The A/C worked after that, and everything was clean. The toilet paper holder was at the bottom of the sink, so the roll touched the floor whenever I pulled a sheet. I took it off during our stay. Breakfast the next morning was great. We weren't told the voucher amount at the restaurant, but there was a buffet or a menu, and the waitress said everything was included and we could add sides. Checkout was easy, just a text and leaving the keys in the room. Still, the staff's attitude and lack of direction make me doubt we'll stay again. Kids ran up and down the hall, and people slammed doors around 11 p.m., with nobody monitoring it.

The remodel looks nice, and I loved the swim area. The only thing I'd change is making the hot tub warmer. I'd definitely come back.
