Hyatt Place Milford / New Haven

The staff were fantastic, really friendly, and the rooms were very nice. The walls seem fairly thin, though. A belligerent neighbor kept me awake for most of the night. That wasn’t really the hotel’s fault, so I’m still giving it five stars.

This is my go-to hotel when I’m in town. The manager lady knows me by name and is always so nice when I check in. Parking is plentiful, and you can’t beat the free breakfast, though the breakfast area is a bit tight. My only issue is there’s no microwave in the room, just one in the lobby. Better than nothing.

The hotel itself is fine, but I paid $50 for a 9 am check-in and wasn’t allowed in until 11:20. They had several early check-in rates, and I chose the 9 am option because I needed the room then and thought it was worth paying for. Since we couldn’t check in, we had to make other arrangements. I was still charged the $50, and I can’t get anyone to help reverse it.

The staff were the one bright spot. They were friendly and helpful, but the basics just aren’t there. The internet didn’t work, the beds were old and uncomfortable, the fridge hummed all night, and a bright outside light shone straight into the room. I could also hear everything from the hall and other rooms all night because the sound insulation was terrible. The breakfast setup was especially surprising: no crockery or proper cutlery, just disposable plastic cups, forks and knives, and paper plates. That’s nowhere near acceptable for a Hyatt hotel, and it doesn’t fit Hyatt’s brand standards or sustainability commitments. I’m shocked at how low the standards were for a supposed Hyatt. It feels like a budget motel with a Hyatt sign, and I wouldn’t stay again until these basics are fixed.
