Sheraton San Jose Silicon Valley

Cleanliness was the dealbreaker for me. I needed a clean place to shower and get ready, and this hotel failed badly at that. I specifically asked about housekeeping at check-in and confirmed it would come every other day. Two days later I returned to a room that hadn’t been serviced, even though I’d asked and checked. If you don’t mind an unmade bed or used towels, maybe it’ll suit you. It was relatively quiet compared with other hotels nearby, so that part was okay. But I need somewhere I can clean up and sleep, and this didn’t meet that need.

We stayed one night with a friend, and the whole incident was awful. We made coffee on arrival and found a contact lens in the coffee maker. Imagine drinking your coffee and finding a lens at the bottom of the cup. We immediately asked for a MOD, but apparently nobody was available to come. The front desk agent went to our room, apologized for the inconvenience, and removed the coffee maker and cup with the lens. After checkout, nobody contacted us to show any interest in what happened. On top of that, neither the TV in our room nor the lights worked.

The front facing staff were polite and nice, but the maintenance problems were hard to overlook. One night a fire alarm chirped and woke me up. I called the front desk, and they said someone would look into it. I used earplugs, even though they make me uncomfortable and feel less safe when I’m alone in a room, then went back to sleep. In the morning it was still chirping. I called again and was told they’d pass it on to engineering “when they get in.” A fire alarm with a dead battery is just part of a wider pattern here. Furniture joints come apart, the tub has cracks, the HVAC is noisy, carpets are stained, and the rooms aren’t fully cleaned. Utilities are badly maintained and could be a safety risk. For somewhere with Sheraton’s standards, this place falls short. If you’re paying for a place to sleep, you should be able to sleep. The hotel needs a serious overhaul.

The price was good for the location, but the place is very dated. As a Marriott elite, I found the “Club Lounge” disappointing. They served microwaved fried food and charged me for a beer. The lounge should close its doors. :-(
