Sonesta San Jose - Milpitas

The downstairs area and staff are very nice, and the gym is well equipped, with dumbbells up to 75 lbs, plenty of cardio machines, and a cable functional trainer. The pool and hot tub look nice too. The laundry room is a weak point for a hotel this large: it’s on the fifth floor and has just one washer and dryer. There’s no microwave in the room or on the floor, so you have to take food downstairs in the elevator. The coffee machine was basically a placeholder Keurig, with no working outlet to plug it into. Decent overall, but some small amenities could be better.

I’m writing about my recent stay at Sonesta San Jose - Milpitas. The service fell well short of what I expected, and the room was unhygienic with maintenance problems that seemed neglected. The bathroom wasn’t cleaned properly, the air-conditioning barely worked, and noise from neighboring rooms was unbearable. Food I ordered from the restaurant arrived cold and poorly cooked, which really affected the meal. After a five hour flight, I arrived at midnight and Sonesta silicon valley had transferred me to sonesra san Jose because of an issue. They offered no transportation, so I took an Uber. At sonesta san Jose, the receptionist said I’d have to wait 30-45 minutes while their system restarted. It was already 2:30am, and they said there was nothing else they could do. I couldn’t cancel at that hour, and I was nearly breaking down. Luckily, check-in took less than 30 minutes and I finally got a room to sleep in. But it clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly: towels were messy in the bathroom, and I strongly suspected they’d been left by the last guest. There was even leftover waste in the toilet. I was too tired to argue, but future guests should avoid this place. I don’t know how it got such a good reputation online. This was way below average.

There’s a mini fridge and coffee station in the room, but no microwave. The TV had extended cable, though no streaming. The pool looked nice but was closed for maintenance during my stay. The large parking lot costs $20 a night, and I don’t know why. Breakfast, parking, and even the $6 water in the room all cost extra. I hadn’t encountered this at other Sonesta hotels, and if I’d known about the added charges, which quickly pile up, I might have stayed somewhere else. Staff were very friendly, and the rooms were clean and nice, though a little threadbare in places. Across the street there’s a nice Asian market and a range of restaurants within walking distance. It was an easy drive to the convention center, with several routes to dodge traffic. I didn’t get housekeeping on my Sunday to Friday stay. I’m not sure if I needed to ask, but I kept thinking “today was the day” and was too tired to deal with it when I got back. I like the Sonesta brand, but will probably shop around before returning.
