Hilton Garden Inn Milwaukee Northwest Conference Center

The breakfast included in our group package was delicious, and the service was quick and professional. The rooms were reasonably priced, and the hotel was decently located between the main highway and our weekend destination. The beds felt a little smaller than their stated size, though I didn’t measure. The mattresses were a bit stiff for me, but I know some people prefer that. The pool water was too cloudy for my liking. It didn’t have an overchlorinated smell, so draw your own conclusions. Would I recommend it? Yes, but they need to fix the pool water issue.

The restaurant had great food, and otherwise the room was fine: clean, with a comfortable bed and pillows. The desk sat right beside the HVAC unit, though, so the fan blew against the side of my head while I worked. I had to take a cushion off the couch and use it to block the airflow.

The staff who were there were friendly, but the hotel seemed seriously understaffed for a Saturday. We asked for pillows and blankets for the pullout couch at 9:30 p.m., then had to ask again at 10 and 11. They arrived a little after the third request. The restaurant had the same feel, like there weren’t enough people to handle any kind of crowd. The common areas were uncomfortably cold, too. The front desk clerk had a big heater blowing on her, and signs in the restaurant asked people to keep the inside door shut to hold in warmth, so it seems like a known issue. We’re easygoing and didn’t complain, but waiting until 11 p.m. for bedding is pretty wild. The lack of heat felt like the hotel was trying to save a few bucks, which cheapens the brand. I felt bad for the staff, who seemed stuck in a tough spot because of the owners or management.

Cathy in the Tavern Inn was wonderful at breakfast, and Joe was just as wonderful with our banquet meals. The staff were gracious. I recommend this hotel and its staff.
