Modern Stay 39 Lakeview By OYO Minonk Garden

I woke up freezing around 2 a.m. and couldn’t get back to sleep. It was below 10 degrees outside, but there was no heat on in the room. They brought us a tiny space heater about the size of a toaster and an extra-thin blanket. Don’t stay here when it’s cold.

We got stuck here because of the weather just now, and the bedding was filthy. When I pulled back the blanket, I found rodent droppings on the bed underneath it. I got a refund right away. Do not stay here.

The shower barely had any pressure, and the water was only lukewarm. There was no housekeeping, and our room was small. The window AC was plugged into an extension cord, its intake and exhaust vents were filthy, and the sprinklers had thick dust on them. The bathroom outlet looked like it might have caught fire. The hallway carpet smelled musty, and dead bugs stayed on the floor in another hall our entire stay. Outside, the flower beds were weedy and the trees needed trimming. Check-in took too long while we waited for the desk clerk. They charged $50 for my dog and asked if he was house trained. They should have paid us to stay there. Most likely, I won’t come back.

The people who work here were amazing. Oyo canceled my online booking at 3 p.m., and I arrived at 3:06, but they still honored it at the website price. The rooms are clean and the location is great. I’m giving it four stars because it’s not the Hilton, but it’s still a great place.
