Harbor Town, BW Signature Collection by Best Western

The staff were nice, and the bed sheets and sleeping area were clean. The bathroom was another story. There were odd splatters on the door, yellow marks on the ceiling over the bathtub, and what looked like hardware or mold around the toilet. Paint had dried on the counter, the tub caulking was nasty and sloppily done, and the shower didn’t feel safe. The curtain looked like something from a hospital room. I don’t even want to guess what the yellow splatters were. The website says the rooms are recently updated and clean, but mine didn’t seem that way. It felt like a rushed, disorganized update.

This felt like a sketchy place. There was a man walking around the parking lot with a baseball bat when I arrived. Then on Sunday, the local paper ran a story saying a suspected murder had been arrested at the hotel. The room was dirty, with hair on the sheets. I asked for a refund and didn’t get one. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. If I could rate it lower, I would.

I biked here from the SS Badger, a 17-minute ride, but there’s no bicycle parking. The staff were helpful and moved me to another room easily when I didn’t want to hear the minor construction happening that day. My bed was really comfortable, with lots of pillows, and the AC was good. The water pressure was nice too. There are a few cosmetic issues in the room, but it has what you need, and it feels like they’re making an effort to improve the place.

The booking was easy, the staff were super friendly, and checkout was a breeze. I stayed here for an event in Manitowoc, and the hotel sits right on the main road coming into town. It looks like it’s recently been updated. You’re paying for value, so keep your expectations in line. The room was clean, small, and adequate, and the AC worked fine. The bed was clean but softer than I like. Breakfast is basic: choose a breakfast sandwich for them to microwave and tell them when you want it. There’s also cold cereal, coffee, juice, and a little fruit. It’s a clean, friendly spot for the night with a simple breakfast, as long as you’re not expecting the Four Seasons for $80 a night or the Days Inn.
