Permian Studio Apartments

The hallway on the third floor smelled so strongly of vomit when the elevator opened that we had to hold our breath and hurry to our room. The room we eventually got also had used toilet paper left in the bathroom trash by the maintenance worker who fixed the AC. It made me wonder whether housekeeping had checked the room before letting guests in. Both rooms we stayed in had poor lighting, with some bulbs missing from the fixtures. My wife had booked and paid extra online for the larger studio. At check-in she saw we’d been put in a different room. The woman at the desk said the online photos were old and that we were in the room we’d booked. My wife asked to see the other room the woman had mentioned. It was vacant, but the AC wasn’t working. That room matched the pictures and was the one we were meant to have; because its AC was out, they’d placed us in an older accessible room instead. It took three days to move us to the correct room. We asked for the extra amount we’d paid to be refunded for the half of our stay in the wrong room, but the manager ignored the request. At first I felt they’d deliberately misled us about which room we should have. It was a horrible experience. We struggled to understand the manager, and I’m sure he struggled to understand my wife and me. I’d been away for work for a month, and my wife had travelled to see me, so we’d spent quite a bit and expected an enjoyable time together. Instead, half the stay went into trying to get the room we’d paid for. I don’t recommend staying here, and I’ll choose somewhere else next time. I added photos of the first, older room that hadn’t been updated in a while, and a final picture of what the maintenance worker left in the room we moved into.

The owners and staff seem to take pride in improving this place, and it’s a big step up from when it was Microtel. Rooms are clean and quiet, with full-size refrigerators and mini kitchens for cooking. There’s also laundry, an outdoor kitchen, and grills. The staff were pleasant and accommodating whenever we needed anything.

It was loud throughout the place, and the highway wasn’t the only reason. Also, there’s no breakfast, despite what I was led to expect, and the pool was unavailable “due to maintenance.” Those were both the reasons I picked this place, and neither was available.

Good prices, helpful staff, and updated amenities in nice rooms. You don’t have to spend a whole paycheck to stay here. Everything in monahans is only a few minutes away. Five stars from me!
