The main annoyance was that the hotel’s only ice machine wasn’t working. My room was otherwise clean and nice, with a water leak in the bathroom. All rooms have a fridge and microwave. For a basic 2-star hotel, it wasn’t bad, and the location works well if you’re visiting Prince William Forest Park and don’t want to camp or stay in a rustic cabin.

The front desk staff were very kind, but the hotel itself was terrible. We were using it as a halfway stop on a drive from NY to Atlantic Beach, NC, and arrived just before 1am. We didn’t expect anything fancy, but we did expect better quality. We had two rooms next to each other on the second floor. In the first, stained sheets made it impossible to sleep under the blankets. The stains looked like they were from adult “fun time”. In the other room, cockroaches were crawling on the floor as soon as we walked in. The tub was falling apart and ran constantly, with no way to turn off the water. We stayed because we needed sleep to finish the drive, but we wouldn’t stay again. We didn’t try breakfast because after all that, we didn’t trust it.

The clean linens were about the only thing that seemed cared for. The shower spray had been replaced and was clean, but whoever did it didn’t use anything on the threads, so it leaked like the faucets. The bathroom door was out of alignment and had to be forced open and shut. They were painting doors without preparing them first. It felt like there was a crew for the linens, but no one competent looking after the rest, as if the place was being left to deteriorate until a remodel. I think the only reason my wife agreed to stay was that we’d looked at the Ramada in our plan first.

When I had a major problem in my room, the front desk made me feel like I was the problem. They told me to fix it myself and then tried to talk me out of moving to another room. Other issues came up too, and I got no help or apology, just a disinterested look. This place makes customers feel unwelcome.
