A few years ago, we got stranded on a mountain with a flat tire. We were broke, exhausted, and had been without food and money for a while. The man who ran, owned, or still owns this place, along with people in town, helped us so much that we made it home. I owe a big thank you to Monte Vista's people, the tire shop, the hotel, the church folks, and Officer Lyons, I think that was his name. I'd like to come back under better circumstances and show my respects.

The rooms are adorable, smelled clean, and were super cute. The front desk hosts were so kind and welcoming. It's also really nice that they welcome dogs, which matters to those of us traveling with pets.

Elizabeth checked us in and was delightful. She welcomed our dog and suggested places to walk Jake, so we went to the clean, grassy Memorial Park a short walk away. She also recommended Sunflour Café down the street for breakfast, and it was AMAZING. Everything was fresh and homemade, and the cinnamon roll may be the best pastry I've ever had. Our room felt homey, like a cozy inn or a great aunt's spare bedroom, with real books, duck decor, soft towels, plenty of pillows, and a comfortable bed. The people renovating this 1950's motel are doing a great job. I had some trouble getting the shower temperature right, which Elizabeth had warned me about. She was helpful and apologized that it wasn't fully fixed yet. There's some noise from the intersection outside, but all three of us would love to stay again. ❤️

Rooms and kitchens were clean, with comfortable beds and chairs, and each room has its own decor that makes the place feel homey. Service was great, and the prices are worth mentioning because I wouldn't even consider staying elsewhere. I was there when temperatures were in the single digits, and was pleased that the room stayed warm, unlike those drafty box hotels. I had other business in the area during 2016 and plan to stay again. If you're passing through, stop by, but call ahead since it seems to fill up quickly. I love this mom-and-pop motel.
