Quality Inn Monteagle

We stayed over Thanksgiving break for the holidays, and the hotel was clean, nice, and not too expensive. It’s a handy stop when you’re coming from Chattanooga or Nashville, or just traveling and need a room. My boyfriend and I also got to see several places in Nashville, with a few restaurants and gas stations beside the hotel. The only trouble I had was with the heating and air conditioning unit. Some nights, even when it said the air was on, it blew hot air. Apart from that, we had a good stay.

It’s a good place to stop and rest, but the TV wouldn’t work with either remote. After a few trips to the desk, the clerk gave me another remote. The remotes worked on the lobby TV, so the issue was with the TV in our room. The clerk seemed put out, so we left things as they were. There was no apology or sign of concern. I don’t blame the hotel itself, but staff training could help. It was a Tuesday, not a weekend, and they could easily have moved us to another room.

This is a good value when you’re coming up through Chattanooga and want to get outside the city without spending a lot. I drove in from Atlanta and had seen some run-down places, so this one was a welcome change. The front lobby is really cool and has a cabin feel. The rooms at the back are more like a typical older hotel that’s been updated, but they’re cared for and nicely redone. Good TVs, a decent fridge, all the regular stuff you want for a night or two. The walls have that popcorn texture.

For the price, this motel is decent value. The rooms were clean, the staff weren’t unfriendly, and breakfast was reasonable. Room 203 had such a strong cigar smell that our eyes watered. We left smelling of cigarette smoke. There were a few cigarette burn marks around the sink, and the carpets were sticky and really gross, though I can understand that. When I mentioned the smell at checkout, I was told it was very unusual because the property is non-smoking. It seemed like someone had smoked continuously in that room for the previous 30 years. I’d give the hotel five stars for its value if the cigarette smoke weren’t an issue.
