The room itself was already a problem: it smelled strongly of cigarettes, the AC wasn’t working right, the toilet wouldn’t flush properly, and gray water came out of the bathtub faucet. We stayed at the Quality Inn in Monterey, TN off I-40, and later that evening I stepped outside briefly with our two small dogs off leash. They’re calm, friendly, well-trained dogs, and there was no disturbance or issue with other guests. We respect that hotels have rules. But staff came to our room and spoke rudely instead of handling it professionally or giving us a respectful warning. At 10 PM, they gave us just 30 minutes to leave, with no refund and no reasonable attempt to sort things out. There was no damage, aggression, or complaint from anyone else, yet we were treated as if we’d done something much worse. Customer service and basic courtesy matter. This could have been handled respectfully, but it became one of the most humiliating hotel stays we’ve had, and one of our worst experiences in many years of traveling.

A warm welcome after a long drive made this such a nice overnight stop for my road trip. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, and everything was very clean and well kept. There are snacks for sale in the lobby, plus fast food, coffee, and two gas stations just a short walk away. It would also be a good base for staying longer and seeing the area. Thanks for a great experience.

The place could use some work, though the price was very good. There weren’t any paper towels in the common restroom, the shower head in our bathroom didn’t work, the toilet paper holder was coming loose, and the sink faucet was wobbly. The building seems to be running on a shoestring budget, which wasn’t too surprising. The facility was VERY clean, and the ladies at the desk on both check-in night and check-out were VERY nice and helpful.

We’ve tried a bunch of hotels when visiting family twice a year, and this one felt like home. Everyone was wonderful and helpful, and they made us feel welcome. Breakfast was good, including the coffee. We’ll definitely come back for future visits.

I felt unsafe after the way I was treated, and didn’t want to leave my belongings there. Heather was combative and argumentative from the moment I walked in on Friday. I raised the issue with the manager, but she defended Heather even though I felt Heather was clearly in the wrong. This is the worst Quality Inn I’ve ever seen. It’s a shame they’re a monopoly in town, but I’d rather sleep in my car than stay another night. They won’t get another dime from me. I’d give zero stars if I could.
