Carmel Hill Lodge

Dan's help is what I'll remember most. He welcomed us warmly and suggested great dog-friendly places nearby. Then, after I accidentally left my computer bag beside my car, he tracked down my number and called before I'd even left the area. His honesty and effort saved me from a major crisis, and I'm incredibly grateful. Thanks, Dan, for being so kind! The room was comfortable, and the shopping center right across the street made the location convenient. The service really went above and beyond.

We had a wonderful time in Monterey, and Dan, who manages the hotel property at Carmel Hill Lodge, deserves a lot of credit. He was incredibly hospitable and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. The lodge was good value and well placed for getting to all the fun things nearby. I'd highly recommend staying here.

We checked in to a dirty room: sticky dressers, handprints, a used bar of soap on the tub, full bathroom trash with used items, and debris on the floor as if it hadn't been swept. I started wiping things down with my own wipes, but the used soap and hair in the tub were too much. The manager was friendly and tried to help. My problem was with housekeeping. When asked to clean again, the housekeeper got angry, insisted the room was clean, then cursed at us in Spanish while we were outside in the rain with our one-year-old. I'd already started cleaning, which is why it may have looked clean. We packed up and left right away. Management was very nice, but housekeeping was horrible.

The desk staff member was very nice and trying his best, and the hotel's location was good, but the problems put a damper on the stay. The toilet wouldn't flush when we arrived. Its handle nearly spun 360 degrees, so my friend had to take the tank lid off and pull the chain to make it flush instead of running continuously. The shower pressure was extremely weak, making it take longer to rinse soap and shampoo. The outer bed sheet had dirt-like stains, though the inner sheets and pillowcases seemed clean. We were given two shampoo bottles instead of shampoo and conditioner. It wasn't a big deal, but seemed like a mix-up. When I asked the desk for conditioner, the man said he'd bring some, but came up with two more shampoos and started to leave. I pointed out that it was more shampoo, and he said they were out of conditioner. I understand running out, but he could have just told me. He then came back with a cup of water with conditioner poured into it. I appreciated the effort to find some, but felt weird about using conditioner in a cup, so I went to the store for my own. I also thought we had two bath towels, but one was much shorter. It looked like a bath or floor mat, although it was hanging with the regular towel and the actual bath mat was already on the floor. That towel also had dirt stains, which I noticed after using it.
