Fisherman's Cove Inn

We came for a weekend getaway and were pleasantly surprised by the charming rooms. They’re spacious and comfortable, with renovated bathrooms. It’s a great budget-friendly inn near Monterey and Carmel, with very reasonable prices. I’d recommend it and stay again on our next visit.

The property looked remodeled and was very clean. It’s close to shops and the outdoor mall, and it’s dog-friendly, though the $25 nightly fee per pet is standard for the area. The manager was quite rude about the pet fee. Before we arrived, they sent a link for onboarding where we declared how many pets we had, provided a card number for payment, and signed electronically. We checked in after hours, which I appreciated, and he had me sign the form again. It looked like he’d printed it out with my answers on it. The next day, when we returned from the beach with our dog, he stared at me aggressively from his car. I got out and said hello, and he replied that I had to pay the pet fee. I reminded him I’d declared our one pet and put my card on the link they sent. I asked him to charge that card, and he said he’d check. At the office he said I hadn’t paid, and acted as if I were trying to avoid the fee. He then said the system only let him charge one night, so I’d have to bring cash for the other two. I said I didn’t have cash and asked if he could just charge the card. He said no, then rudely ordered me to get cash and bring it to him. I had to find an ATM because he couldn’t read his own onboarding form or manually charge a card using a point-of-sale system. I understand mistakes and miscommunication happen, and even then it’s best to be polite. A simple request to get cash because there was no way to charge my card would have gone over much better than being commanded to do it for him.

Rakhi and Paresh were warm, welcoming hosts and unusually helpful. The maid service was wonderful: fresh towels were neatly placed in the cubbies, and the two extra blankets my daughters brought were kindly laid across the freshly made beds. I’ve stayed at several Munras motels over the years, but Fisherman's Cove is the one I’d recommend for comfort and value. It’s also delightfully close to Trader Joe's, Peet's Coffee, Parker-Lusseau patisserie, and Whole Foods. I hope this unassuming, simple, beautifully run motel flourishes for years to come.

The receptionist was super nice, and our room was spacious enough for the four of us and very clean. We were comfortable during our stay. The location makes it easy to get around Monterey Bay and Carmel by the Sea, and Santa Cruz is only a 40-minute drive away. We’d definitely consider staying there again.
