Best Western Monticello Gateway Inn

I contacted Best Western Corporate after our stay. The only compensation offered was “thousands” of Best Western Reward points, which turned out to be worth $12. The problems started well before we arrived, when arranging a block of rooms for my wedding in Monticello proved extremely difficult. The manager kept saying on the phone that she would book it later and call with details, but she never did, and was hard to reach. After I called again, she eventually booked it, then said some rooms had gone to another block and she couldn't provide the number first promised. I had reserved the jacuzzi suite more than six months ahead, but was told that room had bed bugs. My fiancé and I ended up in a double-queen room. The manager said she'd try to move us to something better, then we never heard from her again. The bathroom was dirty when we arrived, with the previous customer's body hair still in the shower. The toilet seat was broken and slid around. I managed to fix it after fiddling with it for a few minutes, though staff should have handled it. And poop seemed to stick to the side of the bowl more than on any other toilet I've used, especially above the water line. The shower knob had no clear pattern, and it took several minutes to work out how to get a room-temperature shower with enough pressure. A friend in another room said his knob broke off and he had to mess with wires in the wall to get water flowing. Breakfast was disgusting. The fridge in the breakfast area felt tepid, so the food may not have been safe. My fiancé threw up a few times after eating there. The pool looked half-finished, smelled strongly of bleach, and usually had no towels left. When our room was cleaned, we also didn't get fresh towels. I tried doing laundry, but the dryer needed three cycles to dry the clothes. Each one costs four quarters, so you don't know the cost or how long it'll take until your clothes are wet. I ran out of quarters before they were dry. There's no change machine, and the front desk had only eight quarters, so plan ahead if you need to wash something. The dryer was also extremely loud, and as the night went on, I felt bad running it with so many rooms nearby.
