The snowy mountain views from High Hill Inn were beautiful, and breakfast with the owners was a lovely start to the day. My fiancé and I came to Montpelier for a three-day getaway, and the inn was only a few minutes from downtown. It sits down a dirt road, which was fine in the snow, though I wouldn’t recommend driving up in winter without an SUV or truck. The owners were warm and easy to talk with, and the complimentary breakfast was delicious. Montpelier also worked well as a stop for a day trip to Montreal. We’d happily recommend High Hill Inn for a cozy stay and great scenery.

We stayed in the loft and loved it. The views were breathtaking, and the place was quiet, clean, and tucked away. Joe and Anne-Marie are wonderful hosts, and Joe makes a mean breakfast. We had everything we needed.

Before booking, read this and the other reviews. After I reserved through a travel site, the owner called and tried to get me to pay more. My wife and I had planned to stay at High Hill Inn on October 12-13, 2025, during our New England road trip. The confirmed price was $270 before taxes. The day after I booked, the manager called, saying she had questions, then told me the price on the site was wrong. She wanted another $30 and said the room was valued at $455, so I had underpaid by $185. Yet the website showed $325 for that same night the week before and $170 for the two weeks after. The whole thing felt extremely unprofessional, like I was being scammed or price-gouged. I also filed a complaint with Expedia.

The hosts, Ann-Marie and Joe Dixon, made our stay especially memorable. We had such warm, genuine conversations with them in the evenings and at breakfast, and they’re a kind-hearted couple. The inn is a charming B&B, even though booking sites often list it as a hotel, and it’s among the best places we’ve stayed. Our room was the biggest and prettiest of our trip, with a modern bathtub and refreshing, clean-feeling water. The property is set among peaceful woods and fields. Breakfast was spot on: toast, scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, berry compote, and excellent local coffee. There were also two lovely goats from Switzerland. 🇨🇭 We’re giving the place five hearts, for the warmth, care, and connection we felt there.

I wouldn’t return. The room and bathroom were dusty and in poor shape, and the inn was in disarray due to “renovation.” The innkeeper was friendly, but made excuses for the condition, and we hadn’t been told about any renovations beforehand. At nearly $200, the room wasn’t worth it, even if it had been properly cleaned. The innkeeper says the work is recent, but reviews from three years ago and their photos show the house in much the same condition. I originally booked through Expedia, then the innkeeper called and asked me to cancel and book directly with her, with payment by Venmo. I paid $98 at booking and the other $98 when leaving. Her reply says I didn’t pay the full amount, but I have proof, and no refund was offered.
