Hyatt Place El Paso Airport

After my seven-year-old broke an arm, we made an emergency trip to El Paso and didn’t reach the hotel until 4 in the morning, straight from the hospital. The night clerk was kind and considerate, found us a discounted rate for the emergency, and offered to extend checkout because we arrived so late. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and breakfast was delicious.

The rooms were spacious and CLEAN, and although the hotel is a bit old, it’s all been renovated or updated. The area felt good and safe. Breakfast beat anything we’ve seen at another Hyatt Place, with menudo in the morning, and they even gave us a nice little gift for staying on Christmas Eve. We were driving through El Paso, and the whole staff was phenomenal. Maddy checked us in with probably the most hospitable welcome we’ve ever had at a hotel.

The employees were friendly and helpful, and although we didn’t eat the free breakfast, it looked like there was a wide variety of food. The room design caused a lot of problems. The bathroom vanity light kept switching off by itself, and when it was on it was very dim. With dark gray walls reflecting in the mirror, it was hard to see. The WC and shower area was tiny, and its door took up so much room that getting in or out was nearly impossible. I’m only 5'2" and 115#s, so I can’t imagine how a larger person manages. The heating and cooling thermostat was on the far side of the room and took a long time to read the temperature. Getting comfortable was nearly impossible, with one side freezing and the other roasting. Poor design, especially after the remodel two years ago.

The staff were a real highlight, friendly, professional, and courteous. I was moving and had lots of bags with me for the one night I stayed while passing through. There weren’t any luggage carts, but the staff helped carry my things to the room, which was a nice touch. My digital key didn’t work, as usual for me, but the front desk quickly sorted it out with a physical key. The room was spacious, with clean, comfortable bedding, though it smelled of stale cigarettes. The TV channels didn’t really work. Being near the highway made getting on the road easy, but also meant some noise. I was placed right by it, which was odd since my status usually gets me preferred locations. My travel earplugs and white noise handled it. For one night on a long trip, it was a pretty standard Hyatt Place and a good place to rest.
