Pet-friendly Montrose Home, Walk to Town!

That little front porch with two chairs facing a quiet street was a nice place for breakfast or dinner, and the house is just one block from the main road. But the stay was disappointing. The listing didn't mention that the house dates from the early 19th century. If we'd known, we might have set different expectations or chosen somewhere else. There were no blackout blinds, so the bedroom stayed bright. It was warm at night, but there were no insect screens, and we avoid running AC overnight, so we couldn't open the windows. The front door only locked with an electronic lock that had a very simple, easy-to-guess code, which made us uneasy. The worst part was the little black bugs all over the house, especially in the bedroom. A note on the fridge said they were harmless elm bugs and spraying had been done, but also explained that bugs were expected during elm bug season because of the old building and its many cracks. We couldn't accept having them everywhere, so after one sleepless night we left. We politely contacted the host through several channels to ask for a refund for the remaining two nights, without expecting anything, but got no reply or even a brief acknowledgement of our early departure. It was a stressful, very disappointing experience. We can't share the many excellent reviews on booking.com and other sites.
