Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Mooresville - Lake Norman by IHG

The engine revving outside made it hard to sleep. A local group gathers in the parking lot next to the hotel most nights, at different times, and makes a lot of noise. On my last morning, they slid the invoice under my door at 3 AM. I’m a light sleeper and woke up right away. I went downstairs and was told they’d send me some points, but checkout isn’t until 11 AM. Nobody needs an invoice at three in the morning. If they’re printing them anyway, they could wait until checkout, or send it by email like they normally do. The hotel is in the middle of renovations, so I can’t blame them too much for the way the rooms look right now.

The hotel’s being renovated, so there may be some noise if you visit soon. Otherwise, I had a great stay. The location is handy, right off the interstate and near local restaurants. My room was clean and the staff were friendly. In the afternoons they offer extras like popcorn and hot dogs. There’s also a lobby fruit bowl with bananas, oranges, and apples, and lemon infused water by the front door.

The staff were nice and welcoming, but that was the high point for me. The hotel feels very dated. Aside from the bed and pillows, everything in the room seemed old. I stay at hotels all over the country, including other places in the IHG line, and this property clearly hasn’t kept up with the remodeling I’ve seen at other IHG locations. If the rooms are priced the same as other hotels I’ve stayed at in the IHG family, some of that revenue needs to go back into the property. It needs to get with the times.

The online booking was for a king room, but when we arrived and walked into our room, it wasn’t the room we’d booked. At the desk, I was told that only a room with two queen beds was available at the last minute. We asked for a refund since we couldn’t get the king room we reserved, and she said no. The hotel is also under renovation, but the website didn’t mention that. It looked run down compared with the online photos, which felt like false advertising to me. Very disappointing. I don’t recommend it.
