Hampton Inn Scranton at Montage Mountain

The rug was very dirty, and the water pressure was quite low, so I'm taking off a star. The handicapped room itself was a nice size, though, and the air conditioner worked great. The modern bathroom grab bars were conveniently placed and easy to use, even if you're petite.

I was there overnight on a road trip, and the breakfast was really nice. I especially enjoyed the variety, including the waffles. Seeing Montag Mountain was absolutely gorgeous. It's nowhere near being a lodge, but the hotel still had that kind of cozy feel. It was so cute, and I'd go back 100%.

The beds were clean and comfortable, and breakfast was better than at the Comfort Inn next door. But there were hairs on the bathtub wall, and the walls are thin. Expect traffic noise all night at the intersection of major highways, even though I asked for a quiet side. Apparently that costs extra. They weren't helpful when I asked about the rate and paying cash as a Canadian. They would accept a credit card at a 50% exchange, making it more expensive than the Comfort Inn next door. You also have to pay for the pool.

We just needed a midpoint stop on a family road trip, and this Hampton Inn was exactly right. It exceeded my expectations so much that I might choose it over the Ritz Carlton. It isn't fancy, but there's a calm simplicity when a no-frills place gets the details right. The employees were professional, kind, and attentive. The pool was gorgeous, nicely heated, and had plenty of towels. Breakfast was tasty and generous, with lots of dining space. The gym was clean and fine for a handful of people at once. There was also a centrally located fountain with a bottle refill station, and ample nearby parking. The room was a little small, and the bathroom lighting felt sterile, but everything was clean and orderly, so no complaints there.
