The woman at the front desk, Shazia, was so friendly and made our stay a little better. She should be a manager. Aside from that, I can't recommend this hotel, and there are better options. We changed rooms, which worked a little better, but it was still a frustrating stay and I couldn't wait to check out. The people upstairs seemed to spend all day moving furniture and stomping around. This place is not soundproof. I found the hotel stingy: ice cream was never available, and when housekeeping asked what I needed, I asked for garbage bags, but got just one bag for the three trash cans in the rooms. The gift bags with chocolates and drinks on arrival were thoughtful, but didn't make up for how uncomfortable it was. After a difficult day of moving, we encountered a guest blocking the entrance with a growling pitbull, then our key card kept failing. The pullout sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable, my son barely slept, and the thin mattress had a questionable stain and no fitted sheet. I used sheets from the main bed to cover it, and we'll have to buy a mattress topper so he can sleep while sharing with his little brother. With the sofa open, the room was cramped and hard to move around in, and it simply wasn't suitable for a family. We were stuck for a few nights because of New Year's Eve and had no other options. We were also going through a family crisis and hoped for little things that might cheer the kids up.

The staff made us feel welcome, like visiting family. Everyone we met was friendly and courteous. Our one-night stay was pleasant, with clean, well-appointed rooms in what looked like a newer property, and a nice lobby where I could work. Breakfast had the usual TownPlace offerings, with good choices and a sensible setup. The walls were a bit thin and it got a little noisy, but not too bad. Thanks for a nice stay. We'll be back.

I had a great business trip stay, despite three important calls in one day and several technology problems. Shazia was friendly, supportive, and helpful, and significantly eased my stress. The staff were amazing: everyone I passed smiled and said hello, even the ice machine repairman, though I'm not sure he worked there. I'll stay here on my next trip to Scranton.

We checked out convinced this ties with another TownePlace Suites for the worst Marriott stay we've had. We booked a one-bedroom queen suite with a pullout, but got a studio king instead. The desk said the room had been booked months in advance and wasn't available. I asked for compensation since our family of four was squeezed into a small room, and was told the rate was lower and we'd be “gifted” 10,000-15,000 points for the inconvenience. While checking the room, I found mold and mildew in the bathtub. When I asked to move, the clerk said all 13 rooms were taken because there were 13 reservations. I understood, but still felt they should move us and clean that room properly for another guest, since nobody should have to stay in a dirty, moldy room just in case other people check in. The clerk looked annoyed, but agreed to switch us. The new room wasn't much better, so we made do and avoided the tub. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. There were several other Marriotts next door, and I'd choose one of those even if it cost a little more. I'll avoid all TowenPlace Suites from now on.

The complimentary ice cream and hot and cold drinks are a nice extra, and the included breakfast was very good. We usually choose Marriott hotels when traveling because we trust their quality.
