American Inn

The beds were hard, and the room felt poorly maintained, with holes in the wall. There’s no coffee maker, and noise from other guests was constant. The outlets are hidden behind furniture, and moving a dresser to reach one showed just how filthy it was back there.

The pillows are phenomenal, and the showers are always on point. The beds could use an upgrade, though. I’ve always found the rooms clean, and the front desk people are nice and accommodating. The price is right for a basic place to spend the night, but the location is in a slummier part of town. I’ve never had any issues there myself. It’s a decent place to stay in a pinch if you’re not after anything fancy.

My dog loved the big field beside the hotel, where we could play ball. They take dogs, which was a huge plus for me. The staff were friendly and courteous, and went to extra lengths to help when my credit card companies flagged my travel purchases as fraud. My remodeled room was fabulous, with a microwave, refrigerator, flat screen TV, bathroom, and a very comfortable bed with the four pillows I need. It’s great value if you don’t care about fancy hotel names and all the extras that come with them.

We stayed just one night, checking in at 11 pm, and I ended up with easily 100-150 bed bug bites. We’d booked last minute because the reviews looked good, but it was a bad mistake. We left at the crack of dawn to get away. The smell of East Indian cooking was overwhelming when we checked in. We should have left right then.
