The breakfast was spot on, just classic bacon and eggs, and a great start to the day. We also had a close call stepping out of the tub: the floor was slick, and my wife nearly fell after her soak. Nothing humbles you like picturing yourself helping your naked wife off the floor before coffee. We laughed about it and made it through. We stayed in the Camelot Cottage, a cozy, charming place in a great spot for enjoying Morrison. There’s a friendly white dog roaming around the property, which adds to the rustic feel. It also turned out to be behind the overnight mystery smell. My wife kept blaming me, until we found actual dog turds behind our bed the next morning. My name is cleared. Despite that and the slippery floor, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend Camelot Cottage.

The cook made a great breakfast, and we loved the dog, who let himself in and out by opening doors. It’s an older place with a lot of history, and there are hot tubs too. Great service, and close to town.

The Rose Cottage was clean and quiet, with a private hot tub, and everything else made the stay feel right: hot food, charming dogs, wonderful staff, and a perfect atmosphere. I’m already talking about booking another trip, and I’d happily stay in the Rose Cottage again. I spent six hours searching online for the right Colorado staycation spot, kept coming back to the Cliff House Lodge, and finally booked it. I’m so glad I did. It’s now my favorite place to stay in Colorado.

We spent one night in the Sail Away room. The bed was comfortable, the gas fireplace was nice, and most of the windows were covered well for privacy. Parking is tight but free for guests. Breakfast includes organic coffee, though we took ours back to the room because there was a pot smell in the main eating area. The main house, lobby, and breakfast area have a mysticism theme. There’s a lot that needs attention. The little back patio could be a peaceful place for coffee or a meal, even in winter when Colorado can hit 70°, but it’s overgrown with thistles and had two spots of dog poop left behind. It needs some care, plus a table and chairs. If you want quiet, the front patio is exposed to people driving and walking past. Inside, the laminate floor has chips and burns, and the tub’s silicone sealant needs work. From the toilet area, you can smell pot from the next-door neighbors when they’re on their patio. The window there needs a curtain, since someone can walk right up and see you, and it may need sealing too. The front door needs sealant to keep mice from getting underneath, the back door needs new weatherstripping, and the window film has eroded. We’d come back, but the place needs maintenance. Four out of five stars.

The cottage was cute, historic, clean, and exactly as pictured. I loved the whimsical room decor, and the bathtub was fit for a king or queen. The bed was comfortable, and the shower was huge, though a door would have helped keep it warmer. Staff were super friendly, breakfast was included, and there was transport to Red rock. There are plenty of nearby food options, but prices run a little higher in this tourist town. We appreciated the late checkout for our later appointments. It was a sweet little birthday retreat, and I’m glad we got to experience it. Still, for the price, I don’t think we’d book again. They need to pay more attention to details. The main reason the rating dropped was the off-leash property dog. He was sweet with people, but aggressively confronted our leashed dog, followed us as we walked back to our room, and wouldn’t respond when we tried to stop him approaching. Our dog did nothing to start it, and I feared he could be hurt. I’m a dog person and liked the “don't feed the wildlife” poster of their dog, but if he acts aggressively toward other animals, calling the place pet friendly feels dangerous for owners. There were very few potty spots unless you walked around the corner and crossed the main road to the trail. They provide doggy bags outside, but some people still don’t pick up, so I was cleaning up after them. The parking spot they gave us was at the back, right by the dog, which made walking our dog to the vehicle uncomfortable. The town is busy, and the nearby venue has shows almost daily. The lot is tiny, so with our big truck there was very little parking. Being by Red Rock, we expected concert noise, but the crowd cheering came through louder than the live music. Road noise was active at all hours too. There was also an extension cord running the length of the cabin, a real eyesore. We think the air conditioner couldn’t share circuits with the other things in the old building, but at that room price, an electrician should have taken care of it.
