The front desk woman was very kind when I told her I was worried about the homeless camp behind the property. She assured me it was safe, and since it was nearly midnight, we took the room. After giving us the key, she locked up for the night. I was glad my spouse was with me because I felt a little safer. The room smelled foul, and it was obvious it hadn’t been cleaned in a while. There was used soap in the shower, garbage in the drawers, a filthy inside door, and a to-do list from the previous guest. The sheets seemed changed, but nothing else did. The bathroom looked long neglected, with dried gunk and hair beside and behind the toilet. I should’ve slept in my car. It wasn’t a good or healthy place to stay. I wish I could post the pictures.

The first thing you notice is a large homeless encampment around the property. That’s not the hotel’s fault, but it’s good to know before staying. A very sweet woman at the front desk handed us our room keys. Inside, the room reeked of cigarettes despite the no-smoking rule, and the smell clung to our belongings after we left. The walls were beat up, with black mold growing on them. The bathtub was disgusting and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. There was a puddle of urine by the toilet, and all the fixtures were starting to rust. The website says breakfast is served, but there wasn’t any. I’ve never before spent a hotel night lying in bed hoping we’d survive it. This place is disgusting. I’d guess the room hadn’t been cleaned since the mid-90s.

We only stayed because we’d already paid. The room hit us with a strong cigarette smell as soon as we walked in. The walls were grimy, and the smoke alarm was in the closet without a battery, so my husband had to go to the office to get one. The bathroom walls and shower were dirty, as if they hadn’t been cleaned in months. One cabinet had food crumbs and dirt, and the mini fridge freezer was packed with ice. It froze everything we put in there, even my fruit and coffee. One outlet had electrical tape across the front for some reason. There was a transient camp just below our window. I could go on, but you get the picture. I’ve seen the owner’s stock response on negative reviews going back at least three months, always sounding surprised that this anomaly of poor service and filthy rooms keeps happening. It doesn’t seem like an anomaly to me, just how things are. We won’t return to see whether anything’s improved. Word of mouth matters a lot to businesses like this, and it’s unfortunate that the owners and corporate don’t seem able to fix the situation.

The staff were nice, and the remodel was okay, though there’s still work to do. The rooms have been repainted, so you can’t smell lingering smoke damage, but every layer of bedding has cigarette holes. The bathrooms need a deeper clean than the spot cleaning they got. The walls are a bit thin too. I could easily hear the neighbors’ puppy and music.
