I booked three nights at the Mt. Air Motel in Welches, OR, but left early because I felt the room was making me sick. There was a strange odor when I arrived, like something had been sprayed. The next morning I had a severe headache and swollen eyes. Those symptoms went away when I left for the day, then came back after I spent another night in the room. After that happened twice, I felt something there was causing a reaction and checked out for my health and safety. I texted the property to explain why I was leaving. They said someone would come by, but I had to head to my event. Cascadia Getaways, the property manager, later texted that they “did not smell anything.” I asked not to be charged for the last night, which was the only refund I requested, since I wasn't going to stay and get sick again. They refused and then stopped replying. Calling Cascadia Getaways led me to automated AI systems that never connected me to a person. I contacted VRBO, and they reached the host; on a three-way call, the manager again said there was no smell and that they'd talk to them. I told them I could smell it and was clearly having a reaction. Soon after the call, I got another text saying there was no smell, they didn't use chemicals, and they still wouldn't address the problem or refund the final night. Their home guide says they're working with pest control to keep mice outside, acknowledges that guests may be concerned, and mentions that deer might visit. I hope management gets more responsive and takes health concerns seriously. They didn't seem to care about my reaction, and the customer service was zero.
We had a wonderful stay and will be back with the family. The rooms are affordable, and the location puts you close to lots of attractions. With the kitchen and cookware available, there's no need to eat out.
The road noise was no surprise since it had been fully disclosed, and it didn't take away from an awesome stay. The staff were very nice, the location was convenient, and we'll definitely return.
The staff and location made this such a great stay. Our room fit what we needed perfectly and was very reasonably priced. It was clean and stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, an oven, a full fridge, cooking and baking supplies, earplugs, fans, space heaters, and extra blankets. There are local restaurants nearby, including Zig Zag Inn, which is worth a stop for dinner, plus shops and a Dollar General for quick errands. The scenery around the motel is beautiful, and it's a handy base for several attractions. Being able to text the front desk was so convenient, especially when my boyfriend realized at the airport, just before we flew home, that he'd left his AirPods behind. The staff found them and mailed them back to us. They went above and beyond. We'd happily stay again and highly recommend it.
Our dogs felt right at home in the little apartment, and I can't get over how good the price was. It was my first stay, but definitely won't be my last. Booking and checking in and out were easy, everything was clean and there was everything we needed. We arrived to relaxing music playing when we opened the door, which was a lovely touch. They provide earplugs, I assume because of traffic, but the noise really wasn't bad. I'm a light sleeper and can't wait to come back.
