Karakahl Country Inn

The room was fantastic for the price: comfortable bed, great shower, plenty of space for your stuff, lots of outlets, vaulted ceilings, and nice furniture. The outside didn't give me that impression at first. There's barely a sign, the front section looks empty or abandoned, and the office and lobby weren't much better. It also seemed odd to leave the parking lot to reach the back of the building, and they still use actual keys instead of key cards. Still, it was a great place to stay.

I got in late and left early, so I didn't get to experience much of the hotel. The room was large, with a sofa, chair, and table, and the carpet was clean. The bed was amazing, with great linens and long, firm, comfortable pillows. The staff welcomed me warmly. I'd definitely stay again.

The room search turned up no bedbugs, but after being warned about the possibility, I'll quarantine everything I brought until I'm sure there are no hitchhikers. We chose the hotel for its charm and indoor pool, since my friend's kids were excited to swim after we arrived that evening. The pool was already closed at 6 PM and wouldn't reopen until after we checked out in the morning. Why say the pool is available if it's out of commission? We were two women traveling with young kids, and the atmosphere felt more adventurous than we'd bargained for. After dark, several men were hanging around the parking lot, smoking and drinking, and I felt uncomfortable walking past them to our room. The property looked nothing like the website, and there wasn't much charm. It was plain the upkeep hadn't been a priority. I wish we'd read all the Google and Facebook reviews before booking. Don't bother with this place until it gets cleaned up.

I've stayed here many times over the years and have always found it quiet, safe, charming, accommodating, and reasonably priced. My room still has that mid-century modern charm, but it looks like they've refreshed it with new paint and bathroom updates. I also noticed new windows going in around the pool. The owner confirmed it should finally reopen next year.
