Hyatt House Charleston / Mount Pleasant

My job paid for this stay, from 2/24/2026 to 3/17/2026. The suite rooms seemed small to me, though our room was clean. Under our contract, they were meant to clean twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays. The service started out great, then dropped to the bare minimum: floors weren’t swept or mopped, counters weren’t always wiped, and the bathroom sink and counters weren’t cleaned. I don’t know if they ended up short staffed. Breakfast was a bright spot. The hotel adjusted its usual 0600 start to 0530 for us, which we all appreciated. Most of the front desk staff were on their phones when we came in, without looking up or greeting us. GiGi (not sure of the spelling) was the best of them. She had amazing energy and was happy to answer questions or help in any way, from the start of our stay to the end. With the others, it often felt like we were bothering them, as if they weren’t at work. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t spend my own money to stay here.

AJ went above and beyond at the breakfast buffet, even making fresh potatoes for me. The buffet spread was fantastic each morning, and the staff were very nice and hospitable. It was my first time at this Hyatt House location, and as usual with Hyatt, the room was clean and everything went smoothly from check-in through checkout.

I really regret trying this new hotel in Charleston. I should’ve gone back to my favorite SpringHill hotel. Hyatt was a huge disappointment: there was black mold in the shower, which leaked and felt like a safety issue. A strong fragrance filled the room and lobby, and it gave me a headache. It seemed like they might be trying to cover another smell. The carpet was stained, as were the bed linens, and I can’t see how carpet on a hotel room floor ever gets clean. The outdated interior design was awful, with gloomy, depressing colors. I’ll stay as far away from Hyatt as possible.

Breakfast was hot and fresh every morning, and the staff were so kind and helpful. Our room was immaculately clean too. We had a really nice stay and would definitely come back.
