Hyatt Place Mount Pleasant Towne Centre

The attached garage made parking easy, and breakfast was good for a hotel in this price range. The room had a comfortable small sofa, a full-length mirror, and a hairdryer, but the bathroom was tiny and both it and the room were very dim. There wasn’t a good place to do my makeup or curl my hair: the desk had a fixed work lamp taking up space, and the backlit bathroom mirror was dim, with only its lower part working in our room. We also couldn’t set the temperature below the preset level, though the hotel kindly brought us a fan when we asked. Our Roku Stick couldn’t be connected to the TV’s HDMI slot either. Those things were a minor bother for one night, but I wouldn’t have wanted to stay longer. It seems fine for a work trip or somewhere to shower and sleep after exploring the area. We’ll pick somewhere else next time.

The breakfast was mediocre, and the dining area was generally dirty, with tables not properly wiped down. Guests had to take their own used dishes to be cleaned, which made it feel like a high school cafeteria. The shower water was lukewarm at best, too. The view from our room looked straight onto dumpster bins (photo attached), which added to the sense that the experience was far below what I expect from a Hyatt property. Noise was the biggest problem. I checked in late, around 1 a.m., and my first room was beside the elevator. By shortly after 6 a.m. I was awake from hallway traffic, elevator chimes, people in nearby rooms, and guests moving around. Conversations and ordinary activity came through the walls and door clearly. I moved to a room farther from the elevator, but could still hear hallway noise, housekeeping, and sounds from outside. This seems like a building-wide soundproofing problem, not just an issue with one room. I’m a World of Hyatt Globalist, Hyatt’s highest membership tier, and stay at Hyatt hotels around the world for work. Despite that loyalty, there was no recognition, compensation, or meaningful effort to resolve what went wrong during this stay at Hyatt Place Mount Pleasant. Hyatt is usually known for consistency and quality, but this property fell well short for me. If getting proper rest, quiet, or basic room standards matters to you, I’d strongly consider somewhere else.

The location was great, with stores and all kinds of restaurants nearby. My colleagues and I were only there for one night, but we all had a good experience. Our rooms were modern and clean, and we enjoyed the included breakfast. Tabitha Joy was the first person to welcome us at reception, and she was friendly and helpful with all our questions. I worked at hotel front desks for ten years, so I know the job can be challenging. Please pass along our thanks to Tabitha. We’re looking forward to visiting again.

Parker at the front desk and Parker at the bar/grill both gave excellent service. The rooms were spacious and quiet, with a good bed, and parking was convenient. Breakfast was better than average, too. There aren’t many places to eat after 8 p.m.
