The room was decent, and the woman who looked after me was really kind. She said they’d only just bought the place and still had some work to do. It wasn’t perfect, but they’re putting in effort, and I can see it becoming a five-star stay before long. It was very peaceful.

The rooms felt cramped, and two people could barely manage in a double, so I had to switch to singles. There was no TV for the first five days. Hot water was another problem: I’d let it run for 15 minutes, then get about 10 minutes of hot water before it ran out.

The room was the tiniest double I’ve ever seen, but it stayed solid and quiet during a severe storm. The guests next door were nice, too. The sink was broken, so I fixed it with tools from my car, and the owner appreciated that. This place won’t suit everyone. If you’re after luxury, book a mega-franchise. But for a modest, cozy stay, it’s hard to beat. I’d happily stay again, especially if I were a young backpacker who likes hostels and traveling the globe.

There were signs of bugs on the mattress, and it was propped up on a homemade particle board frame. The carpet had holes, stains, and burn marks. The room was nasty, and the owner was very rude. Don’t stay here, go to the other hotel down the road.

I couldn’t sleep well because the door bolt wouldn’t lock, so I put a chair in front of the door. When I asked to change rooms, the front desk guy kept saying everything was fine. He explained that the owner had removed the upper lock bolts because of crime. He was very nice, though.
