Munising Motel

Booking online is easy, and the remote check-in and checkout kept things quick and simple. The rooms were fresh and clean, with very reasonable rates. When I asked about staying an extra night over a holiday weekend, the owner was extremely kind. One of the best motels I've stayed at.

I arrived around 8:30 at night needing a hot shower and sleep before a 12-hour drive the next day. The sink had hot water, but the shower didn't. Management sent her husband to investigate from the room next door, then suggested I use that room's shower while staying checked into my original room. I had two small dogs with me, so that wasn't workable. It took two hours from when I reported the problem for her to offer a refund if I left. An hour later I was at Scotty's Motel, settled into a comfortable bed after a wonderfully hot shower.

It wasn't a pleasant stay. The walls were thin enough that I could hear everything outside, the fridge didn't work, and there was a huge black widow in the bathroom. They had small bars of soap, but barely enough for a shower.

We left in the morning after canceling our second night, but the owner still charged us for both nights. The room was awful: the carpet was wet, it smelled bad, and the AC was loud without cooling or drying anything. The shower felt like a standing coffin, and the toilet was so short it seemed made for a preschool. One side of the bed was jammed against a corner, and there was no chair, just a rock-hard bed to sit on. The ice machine was broken too. The TV was tiny, like something out of Michael Scott's condo.
