Hampton Inn & Suites Murfreesboro

We were driving to Florida last week with our two-year-old and had to stop very late. The front desk associate went out of their way to find us a first-floor room and make sure we were taken care of. The room was very clean, and Rina, the housekeeping manager, does a great job. As Hilton Honors members, we got free water, which was welcome after so long in the car. Our toddler eats different meals every day, so we loved the variety at the complimentary breakfast. At checkout the front desk staff wished us well, and they let my daughter pick out a piece of candy for the road. I wish I'd remembered their names. We'd love to stay at this Murfreesboro location again if we pass through. It was our first choice before Hampton Inn Valdosta and Macon GA on our way back home.

I stay here often when traveling around the state. It's convenient to shops and restaurants, a good value, and close to my home office. Most of the staff are friendly, courteous, and engaging. Pattie at the front desk has been especially helpful and friendly every time I've seen her. This is one of my regular spots.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was clean. It was missing the corner table and chair, though, so there was only one place to sit. At five feet tall, I had to stretch to reach the towels, and the towel hook was out of reach. The sink was also so high that brushing my teeth was difficult. Whoever designed that bathroom must have been tall.

I booked January 20-23 and arrived at 12:02 p.m. on January 21 after a 12-hour shift in Memphis and a drive of three hours and 50 minutes. I was scheduled to work another 7 p.m.-7 a.m. shift in Murfreesboro that night. I'd checked in well after check-in time at this and other hotels before, without trouble, and had paid in advance. I assumed the room was secured. I was exhausted and just needed a shower and a bed. Customer service reps were helping recover my room when the manager, a man, arrived in a gray SUV and began unloading frozen food onto a cart. My car was by the doorway because my things were on a bellhop cart, ready to take upstairs. I didn't know the check-in process would take so long. He asked whose car it was, and I said it was mine and that we were nearly done and I'd move it in a second. He yelled, “No, you will move it now! I have frozen items and I need to get them in now.” I didn't want to leave my belongings unattended in the lobby. He replied, “There's cameras here.” His harsh, aggressive tone upset me. I exchanged words with him and asked several times for the police to be called. Afterward, I told the customer service reps I no longer felt safe or comfortable there and wanted my points refunded so I could go elsewhere. I hadn't started the aggressive behavior, but I did respond to how he addressed me. I was drained, monotone, and brief from fatigue. I wish the situation had been handled with more compassion. Instead, I had to keep dealing with customer service reps who put me on hold to call hotel staff. I think the front desk clerk could have shortened the process by calling them herself. She kept walking away, making odd facial expressions, and didn't seem interested in helping. The tone and expressions from everyone involved fell short. I learned that prepaid reservations aren't always set in stone, even when I've checked in late before. Because of my work, I may rarely be able to arrive at 3 p.m. I now know to call the front desk and let them know I'll be late. I will miss my morning chats with the sweet woman who served breakfast. She always offered to go out of her way for me, though I respectfully declined because I didn't want to put her out. We never introduced ourselves properly, and I didn't get her name. She's a true jewel. Thank you for your kindness and exceptional service.
