Sunset Motel

The welcome basket with fresh fruit and muffins was such a thoughtful touch, and the smart TV was a nice extra for winding down. The Sunset Motel in Murphy, NC is cozy, very clean, and full of character, with eclectic furniture and a fun retro feel. It’s also in a great, walkable location. Such a cute and comfortable place, I’d definitely stay again.

Both beds sagged toward the middle all night. The shower had no pressure, and I couldn’t get it to turn on or off. The TV didn’t work the first night. There was a note in the book saying to call the office at night if you needed something, but there wasn’t a phone in the room. They charged me 250 for smoking, even though the charge was supposed to be 150 and I didn’t smoke in the room. They refused to remove it.

We ended up paying $135.00 for a room we never got to stay in, on top of the tow truck cost. We’d been stranded on the freeway for 4 hours, and my husband tried to cancel the room we had already paid for with our debit card. The manager said it was too late. I called and begged her to take the charge off because we wanted to come the next night, but we were really tight on money and couldn’t afford two nights. It was our first getaway in years, and we were broke. I was crying on the phone and she didn’t care. She kept our money. The manager was unhuman. Don’t reserve here. If you can’t make it, she’ll steal your hard-earned money. 🤨😢🤨🤨👹👹

It was okay. In room 22, one bed had been updated and was comfortable, while the other seemed to be from the 1950s. The outlet by the bathroom was worn out, so plugs fell out when we tried to use it. We also got a fraud notice from our bank about the card. This was the only place we used it, so be aware.
