Travelodge Inn & Suites by Wyndham Muscatine

I spent a full week here and had nothing but good service from friendly staff. The new owners are nice, and it sounds like they're ready to put money into fixing the place up. The husband and wife who manage it on site were awesome, always around and willing to go the extra mile for whatever I needed. Not being able to use the pool was a bummer, but hopefully it'll reopen once the roof is sorted out. The hotel has tons of potential. It needs financial backing and people willing to do the work. I can't speak to the financial side, but they do have people ready to work. And there were no bugs in the rooms or beds. I'll be back!

The smell when you walk in is awful. Once we reached our room, we were disgusted: stains on the bedding, dirt on the sheets, and tape over the peephole. The closet bar was missing, the toilet paper holder was broken and hanging off the wall, and there was a wet towel in the fridge that smelled terrible. They tried to excuse it by saying the room hadn't been remodeled yet. We checked out and went to another hotel, and I'm still trying to get a refund. The charge is pending in my account. Wyndham messaged the general manager, but when I called the hotel three days later, I was spoken to rudely and told they didn't know when the manager would be there. I would never recommend staying there.

There was hardly anyone at the front desk, and the washer and dryer didn't work. They advertise a pool, but it was closed. Breakfast was a mess too. They seemed to cook for about five people. On Sunday, the sausage links were gone, so they served only eggs for the next few days until those ran out. Breakfast starts at 6:30 am, but when I arrived then, the worker was fixing her own plate with the last of the eggs. There was no breakfast that day unless you count cereal or light bread. The room wasn't worth the star I gave it: dark and dingy, with stained white sheets, uncomfortable beds, one thin pillow per person, and noticeable carpet stains. None of the room lights worked. The mini fridge was tiny and had no shelf. The tub had a dirt ring, the white shower curtain was stained, and the towels looked dirty.

We're a week into our stay in Muscatine, and the staff have been friendly and very accommodating. They showed us several rooms so we could choose, then even took extra time to show us some themed suites just because. The single rooms are a nice size. We also saw the pool, which was very nice, and the laundry area with one washer and one dryer. I hear the spacious pool room can be used for parties. They offer smoking rooms too, and breakfast, though I haven't tried the breakfast yet. The hotel is great, and we'll definitely come back if we're in the area.
