The room wasn’t the type I’d reserved and looked nothing like the online photos. It’s been four days and my deposit still hasn’t been returned to my credit card, so this has been my worst hotel experience so far. I contacted customer service and got an email asking for my booking details. I sent them, but they never replied. I’m taking the next steps with my credit card company.

For $32 a night, I had low expectations, and the room itself was clean and nice. I was also happy they called at 1:20 p.m. to say it was ready, rather than making me wait until 4, since I had an event to attend. I even had a small ocean view, which was a pleasant surprise. Finding the place was a mess. The front desk didn’t answer my repeated calls, I spent an hour driving around, then parked at a nearby Walmart and walked around for another hour. I eventually recognized the dolphin statue pool from a review. A sign pointed guests to Sand Castle for check-in, but two parking lots there were blocked off. The desk apologized and said the hotel had a new name but hadn’t updated it yet. On Google and my booking info it still said “Capital o sunset waves hotel,” while the staff called it “sea mist hotel.” I couldn’t tell what the name was meant to be. Outside, the buildings badly need fresh paint, with lots of peeling. It was also loud day and night, and later a little mouse ran around my room. I tried to catch it and let it out, but it was too quick and hid well. I might stay again, but the name confusion needs sorting out.

After driving 11 hours with three kids for an Easter getaway, we ended up on the beach searching for somewhere else to stay. The lot was blocked by cones and caution tape, the office was locked, and nobody answered the phone. A red notice from the police about code violations was taped to the front door. The place was a joke, and I’m still waiting for a refund.

The front office staff were very nice, but the place they’re managing made for a stressful stay. There’s no sign identifying the hotel. It’s the old Sea Mist hotel, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The building is falling apart, with holes in the roof; the couches were stained, the floors felt slimy, and the sheets hadn’t been changed. The TVs and refrigerators didn’t work reliably, and some rooms had no TV at all. I had to switch rooms four times because of the air conditioning, broken appliances, the condition of the rooms, and missing or unusable televisions. In room 40403, the floor had dips that didn’t seem structurally sound. The next room had air conditioning, but a dead fridge and a TV showing static. The one after that had no TV, and I was told they couldn’t move us again and maintenance wasn’t there to provide one. This place needs to shut down. The owners and managers clearly don’t know what they’re doing. I wish I’d stayed home and saved the money.

The air conditioning worked well, and being right on the beach was the only good part of our stay. The office was two blocks from the room, with no signs to guide us, and the actual room looked nothing like the online pictures. There wasn’t a TV or any towels or washcloths, and we got only half a roll of toilet paper. The toilet leaked, mold was growing on the bathroom’s back wall, and the kids’ pool was disgusting and out of order. I don’t recommend it.
