It’s a sad day in Murtle Beach. I posted a negative review of BEACH VACATIONS LLC and was fired from the housekeeping and linen department. I work in housekeeping, and I can’t stand seeing the front office add units at the last minute without checking whether they’ve been cleaned or marked as turned over in the system. They sometimes hand guests keys to units that haven’t even been started. What are the front office people thinking? I’m telling the truth, and I’m not sorry the company got one star. They don’t deserve even that.

I’d had a great experience with this company four years ago, so a lot must have changed. The place was filthy: no shower curtain when we arrived, dirty dishes in the dishwasher, no pool key, and cockroaches in the kitchen and living room. My wife had to clean the kitchen before we could put our food away. Nobody answered the phone, so I had to spend part of my vacation driving to the storefront. I’m not happy. In response to the owners: I was offered a pool key late Thursday afternoon, but it should have been given to me with my other keys. The note on the chalkboard was from the previous tenants.

In June 2020, we booked a North Myrtle Beach rental through VRBO, managed by MBVR, about two weeks before our stay. We paid in full up front and stayed in touch with MBVR, who told us to pick up keys and check-in information at their office for our four-day, three-night visit. At check-in, they said our booked unit had been sold and moved us to another “ocean view” property. They had no more information and presented it as take it or leave it. The replacement wasn’t as nice and was listed for $80 less per night. It was oceanfront but had no view, and smelled, as my 12-year-old put it, “like death and old ladies.” I thought we could manage if they refunded the difference, but MBVR told me to seek that from VRBO. We spent the rest of the day on the phone with both companies and got nowhere. We eventually reached the original condo owner directly. Their unit had not been sold, and they were as angry as we were. They helped us get into the condo we’d paid for, but we’d lost a full day of our trip sorting this out. Other owners told us this happens often and that MBVR has a reputation for mistreating guests without informing VRBO or condo owners. They also reported MBVR employees entering units without permission from renters or owners, and items going missing. Then, the day after MBVR said they had no more information because the property was sold, another vacationer checked in at their office and was given keys to the unit we were in. They thought we’d moved into the dump they’d tried to send us to. Shocking, to say the least. If you’re looking to rent or have a property managed in North Myrtle Beach, please do your research and don’t use MYRTLE BEACH VACATION RENTALS. I’d give zero stars if I could. This place feels like a scam, and I strongly advise owners to look elsewhere for management.

As Hurricane Debby approached, the golf portion of our Myrtle group trip was cancelled, but this company wouldn’t cancel our booking or support a refund. The area had an emergency declaration from the SC governor, wind gusts over 40 mph, and life-threatening flash flooding. They still called it “just some rain” and said there were no evacuation orders “YET.” I couldn’t believe how disingenuous that was. Dealing with them was a nightmare. I’d recommend staying far away and avoiding them at all costs.
