Summerwind Oceanfront Hotel

For $54 a night, this was a pretty good deal. I’m a college student on a budget, and the oceanfront location worked out great. The hotel has a pool and good service, with friendly staff, great housekeeping and an easy check-in. Our room was fine, clean, and everything felt newer, like it had been recently renovated. We didn’t have any problems. I’d recommend it to anyone wanting an oceanfront stay on a budget. For that price, you can’t beat it.

It was a last resort, and I had to buy my own supplies just to feel comfortable, but the room was terrible. It smelled as soon as I walked in, the floors were sticky, the tub and washcloths were dirty, and the area under the covers was dirty too. There was no counter over the bathroom sink. The updated photos didn’t match the room. I paid over $500 through booking.com and want every dime back.

This was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, and I’ll never return. They put us on the top floor, then said the elevator was being repaired, but that elevator hasn’t worked in years. The carpet was filthy, stair rails rusty, and the hot tub full of dirt and mulch. The bathroom sink wouldn’t drain and the toilet kept running. There wasn’t a single dish, cup, spoon or fork in the kitchen. The pool was cracked and dirty. Right behind the office, a guy stood in a doorway selling drugs and didn’t seem to care who saw. Parking was pitiful.

We walked into the room and walked straight back out. The photos did not match what we found: the sink was coming off the wall, and what looked like repeated attempts to reattach it with caulk had also broken. The floor tiles shifted underfoot, the dresser looked gross, and there were both dead and live bugs. I wouldn’t even sit on the bed. We couldn’t find another hotel, so I drove five hours home at 11 PM instead of staying. Such a waste of money. When we mentioned the condition to the front desk while checking out, all they really said was “okay.” Don’t spend your money here.
