The Anchor Hotel

The Anchor had lovely pictures online and was close to the beach and the concert we planned to attend on day one. The sheets were clean, but the bathroom wasn’t. There was no service on day two. On day three we had to ask for clean towels and another roll of toilet paper, and were told we’d need to check out and into a different room each day if we wanted service. Day four went smoothly, but on day five we again had to check out and back in to get towels and toilet paper. By day six the floor was still gross and sandy, so we asked to have it washed. We even asked if it normally felt like that or if it was just dirty. Starting on day three, we bought face cloths so we could wash our feet before bed every night. The place felt unattended. On day four I asked the pool attendant if we could put our feet in the pool. He asked if there was water in it. I said yes, and he replied that he didn’t see why we couldn’t, but not to put our feet in if there was no water. Unbelievable. The lack of professionalism and hospitality was hard to believe.

This was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. It was rude, dirty, misleading, and nothing like the photos. We found several cockroaches in the room. The front desk, which was in the motel next door rather than attached to the hotel, told us to sweep them off the deck and into the pool. There was mold on the balcony, and we never got fresh towels or toiletries. We tried to get another room, but neither the hotel nor Hotels.com would provide one, even though we’d paid for insurance. We were also charged another $100 resort fee when we arrived. It felt like a scam.

The room was disgusting and looked nothing like the online photos. There was mold on the lampshade, paint peeling from the walls, and outlet covers were broken, leaving outlets exposed. I’d made the reservation just an hour and a half before arriving and asked the front desk if I could cancel. He said I could, but would charge me $800. I left immediately and didn’t stay. I booked through Expedia. After a month of discussions, they refunded me because they couldn’t reach the hotel to get approval. This is a shady, dirty place.

BEWARE, this place was like a hotel from hell. Huge roaches were everywhere, there was mold across the ceiling, the balcony was cracked, and a dirty, moldy towel had been left on the floor. The trash cans were overflowing for both nights we stayed. The pool was dirty and leaking, with a hose attached to keep it from drying up. We bought covers to sleep on top of the beds. I went with my pregnant sister, and we waited three hours in the hot sun to check in. There was a problem with my booking, but the staff refused to contact Booking.com and basically told us to pay or leave. Eventually I had to pay 50% more just to get the room. Even getting help at the desk was a struggle. The cleaning guy was being exploited and needed us to translate for him so he could say he was going to drop everything and leave. I don’t know how the state allows this place to stay open.
