Faraway Nantucket

The hotel and grounds are charming, very clean, and in a great location. But the room was extremely small and nothing like what I expected for the price. We had booked two larger rooms, with a table, two chairs, and wardrobe shown in the photo. At the front desk that night I asked about our room, and they said we had a standard room and the photos were just models. There was a tiny closet, a cramped bathroom with no counter space and only one hook, and a shower head that couldn't be adjusted. The staff were nice but didn't go out of their way to help. Since this was our first time on the island, it would have been great to get some general information or recommendations. That wasn't the welcome I expected from a luxury hotel.

We stayed in a deluxe king room, tucked nicely into the property. The bed was cozy, the room charming, and we came away with decor ideas for our primary suite back home. Every detail, right down to the little brass touches, was cute. We also enjoyed the coffee and donuts at the Sistership restaurant each morning, and recommend trying them. We'll definitely be back and would stay here again without hesitation.

The bar and restaurant were both very good, but our room was small and awkwardly laid out, so it was uncomfortable to move around. The hotel gave out free morning coffee and tea but charged for doughnuts, which felt like penny-pinching given the very expensive room rate. Free bicycles were one reason we chose Faraway, but the bike I picked on the first day had its chain off the sprocket and was a single speed with no gear shifting, and the bicycles were generally in poor shape.

We had an adequate room, perfect for a quick getaway as long as you get one with a bathroom inside. Service was professional and help came quickly when we needed it. The place is old and noisy, though, and you can hear guests in other rooms, so don't expect a quiet night. Restaurants and shops are very convenient. If you bring a car in the busy season, parking will be difficult.
