White Elephant Village

We were treated like royalty and have never stayed anywhere as lovely in every way. The room was beyond what we expected, and the room service staff were as kind and helpful as family. The hotel manager did everything she could to make our stay pleasant, and went BEYOND kind. We HIGHLY recommend this place!

We were staying in the residences, and the service didn't match the price. A housekeeper came in without warning, without even knocking. The next day, with the do not disturb tag on because my husband had an important business call, they came in twice anyway. Our keys stopped working, and it took three visits to reception before they agreed to replace them. They argued that we weren't using the keys correctly. Even if we were doing it wrong, why argue? Replacing a key is an easy way to make a guest happy. If you expect impeccable service when paying for a nice hotel, keep looking.

The staff were extremely friendly, and our room was classy and spacious. My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights and truly loved the hotel. The grounds and building are beautiful, and they have lots of thoughtful extras: coffee and pastries in the lobby each morning, port wine and cheese in the evenings, and free bikes with helmets to borrow. They'll drive you or pick you up anywhere in town, too. You can even borrow one of the hotel BMWs for 1-2 hours to test drive it anywhere on the island. Really a great hotel.

The rooms are still nice, but leaky shower doors and poor HVAC take away some of the charm. The place has definitely gone downhill since my last visit five years ago. Summer rates are nearly $1600 a night and don't match the service. They forgot to pick us up at the boat dock, then forgot our departure time on the return trip, leaving us without a driver and having to use Uber. The front desk seems poorly trained. I overheard this exchange: Manager: Did we forget anyone at the dock? Lady: A few people. Manager: Oh well, maybe better tomorrow. Lady: Sure, I guess. Summer in Nantucket is undeniably expensive, but even so, there are better places to stay than white Elephant village.
